If she wasn’t carrying
that paper coffee cup,
would she swing both of her arms-
instead of only one?
If she wasn’t wearing
pale blue cotton socks,
would she wear open-toed heels-
instead of cross-country trainers?
If she wasn’t bearing
a thirty-two pound knapsack,
would she glide more gracefully by-
instead of hunching over?
If she wasn’t snared in love
with an alcohol fiend of a jerk,
would she throw glances at handsome men-
instead of her feet striking the pavement?
If today was yesterday
and this year was last year,
would she would burst with butterflies-
instead of worry, dread and fear?
